When author Pete Earley titled his last book “Crazy,” it was not in reference to people with mental illness, but rather to a flawed mental health system intended to help them. Earley became intimately familiar with what he calls “America’s mental health madness” after his son had a bipolar disorder breakdown during college — and ended up charged with a crime.
